Hello,
Im new to the forum and newbie with bonsai trees.
So I have a question.
I have a japanese maple in the garden in a big pot. Now i want to repot it in a small pot and i want to cut of the 2 main branches.
Can you guys give me an advice if i can do this, or i have to do only one thing...

P.s. I left it in a big pot just to get a thicker trunk.

You can cut back hard and re pot at the same time, but not at this time of year. Spring is the time to do it.

Yes, you can. It may die, it may live. Experienced bonsai artists gets away with more harsh treatments than beginners do.

My recomendation for you is not to rush things. "Hurry slowly" :)
