Hello Bonsaiman, exactly this is the right time when we start airlayering wisteria - after flowering with full leaves on
Good luck. Make sure to remove the cambium layer but don´t cut too deep. Only scratch that shiny part away with a knife. I lost some 3 branches in the past because I have cut too deep and removed also the roots to leaves connection.

You have no idea how envious I am right now, Mimo!
Mine is pencil thin, and out of the ground so I imagine it will take 10 years to be like yours. But by then yours will be 10 years older!

Well, this might not look way better than it is although I will try hard to make it ramify as much as possible, but I am looking forward to see this one in ten years :

That can happen when you don't upload the pictures to the Empire!

so idk if it has to do with me repotting this year but mine only grew one flower bud so far. leaves are sprouting like crazy but flower production is minimal. i believe ive read somewhere repotting can possibly affect flower production.

Well yes, supposedly it affects flowering. But I think the flower buds are already on the branches in spring so I don´t see how. To promote flowering wisteria needs to be a little rootbound in the pot too. But I repotted my airlayer few weeks ago and removed around 70 percent of the rootball and it still flowers nice.

I am glad I found this thread, I have a very large mature Chinese wisteria that blooms like crazy every year. I just air layered a branch a couple of weeks ago and am waiting on the roots to come. I've taken small branches and cut them off, stuck them in the ground, and they grow into plants. The thing is crazy invasive.
I could probably air layer this thing a thousand times. I hack it back pretty savagely every year because it grows like a madman.
