Hello everyone, I recently got this new azalea and was wondering weather I could repot it. When I took it out of the plastic pot I couldn't tell if the roots were already at the sides of it. However, the soil is rock hard but it can still drain water. I got this from a bonsai nursery in the current country it is currently in however the climate there is slightly warmer. Is it safe to repot it after flowering or should I wait until next year once it has adapted?

Personally I never rush to repot a newly purshased tree. Just rest asured that the soil the tree came in is the very same soil it has been produced in. If it has been good for comercial production it is good for a hobbyist.

There is nothing in your post that tells me that the tree need urgent repotting. Except for you beeing an eager beginner that just want to do something to the tree. Bonsai is a maraton, not a sprint. So slow down.

Thanks, I will repot it next year then. I like that sentence that bonsai is a marathon, not a sprint. Makes sense

Azaleas are usually repotted after flowering so you could do it. Remove the flowers and seed pod once they start to go over.
