HELP!! I'm a total beginner, after being given a Bonsai Growing Kit as a gift. Followed instructions (seeds in fridge for 6 weeks etc)....5 months later I have 5 seedlings (see attachments). I can't seem to find what to do now. Most information I can find is about older trees. Obviously I know I need to re-pot these (especially as I think there's now moss growing in the soil), but does anyone have any top tips on soil type and more? Tried a garden centre and they couldn't help me. Would be a shame for them not to be given the best chance. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Do you know what species they are?

Looks like something from temperate regions. If that is the case they need to be outdoors in winter. In early spring separate them into individual pots and remove the tap roots. Any normal potting soil will do.

Hmm. I wrote early spring. Are you in the Southern hemisphere? If not it is the wrong time to do it now.

If you are in the Southern hemisphere you have a completely different challenge. Seeds that sprouted in authum and grew in winter will have a very long first season and empty all reserves.

I'm in Scotland.

So do not repot now. Put them outdoors during winter. Come early spring, separate, cut taproot and repot individually.

Thanks. I'm going to, when my shift work allows me. Just thought I'd post my question in the meantime as I was concerned time was an important factor, given that I believe moss is growing, and it would be a shame to let these seedlings die.

Many people grow moss on the bonsai soil because they think it looks better. Not really a threat to the trees. If it grows up on the trunk make sure to remowe it.
