My Crab Apple bonsai has been very healthy producing blossom and then apples. However recently the Trunk has a white covering the trunk. It is too firm to wipe off. Can you explain what it is and h ow should I deal with this as I am concerned that scraping if off might damage the tree.

is it only on the trunk or is it on leaves as well, could just be lime deposits from the water.

I have just had another look at the 'film' on my crab apple bonsai and it appears to be little bit like a wax covering on the trunk of th bonsai.
I have thought of trying to scrape it off but I am concerned of damaging the tree.
Any ideas?
