hi, wanted to show progression on a procumbens juniper ive had for 2years. tree is around 15yrs old. and worked on it for the first time this fall. haven't done much to it but hard prune. purchased the tree from someone on another bonsai forum for a very good price and tree has spent most its life in a 1 gallon nursery pot.

I am a little bit at a loss for words. I saw your tree in the first post and thought.. Amazing material. Then I saw the after pictures and I was shocked to see you killed off the left side of the tree, what I would have used for your tree..

I am not sure. If you look at the flow of thetrunk and the deadwood, I would expect the foliage to be more to the left, following the general direction of the tree. As it sits now, I think I would seriously tilt the tree, either as a semi-cascade, or the other direction, bringing the deadwood to the top. I need to sleep on this one.

i have to say i totally agree with everything you mention. Part of what made me make this decision is this late summer i noticed the tree got a very bad case of juniper scale. i went ahead and sprayed it with what i always use for all my junipers/ trees (bonide all seasons horticultural oil spray) and never had any problems and for some reason after spraying this juniper i had about half of the foliage to the left die off on me after 1 month which is what made me choose to chop it off. ive never had any problems with the insecticide on any other trees especially junipers so i am not 100% if that was the cause for it to die off. but since then the tree looks to be getting better even with some new grow on whats left. my first initial thought when i bought the tree was wind sweep to the left which could have still possibly been an option.

This has got way more jin than my liking. Also, the bare straight section above the foliage doesn't match the curviness of the the rest of the trunk.

At this angle, it gives the impression of reverse taper.
Anyway, it is healthy, but I wouldn't dare to call it a literatti.
