Last year i dug up a yamadori juniper in the mountains in France. Sadly enough it didnt survive ( we had an extremely hot and dry summer and autumn).
This spring i saw a young seedling of about 3 cm high right next to the base of the now dead tree. I decided to start an experiment: i cut out a groove in the dead tree and lead the seedling through , pinning it with needles. Thus far the seedling is growing like crazy ( 30 cm in 2 months), is already making side branches, too low now but they will stay on the create extra thickening of the trunk.The trunk needs cleaning and jin seal but i will wait with that till the next winter.
Lets see where we get with this....

It is going to be sort of a Tanuki bonsai, right?
There are many beautiful Tanuki to get inspired, like the one below.
